Every single rule must be followed. Failure to follow the rules will result in an appropriate punishment, which does include banishment from the site itself. More rules may be added if needed. Announcements will be made if this happens, so make sure you check.
1) Respect is the key to this website. You will make sure to respect every member, and not just your friends, or staff. Every character has a person who also has feelings, and can be hurt. Rude language, comments, fights, and overall flaming will not be tolerated at all. If you ever get a verbal warning for being rude, then I would consider it lucky.
2) No foul language. This website is to be kept as PG-13 as possible. A few swears, such as crap, hell, and acronyms like WTF, or LMAO are also allowed. Most swears will be censored. This rule is not to be taken lightly.
3) No higly graphic fighting scenes, sexual themes, drug related topics, or anything that would be considered inappropriate and/or beyond PG-13.
4) There is to be no spamming the forum. Spam is considered anything that is not on topic, any post that has less than three words, posts with only symbols or letters, and so on. Spam will be deleted, and although you may receive a verbal warning or two, spamming is usually the fastest way someone gets a warning bar, or banned.
5) Role-play in your designated areas. I don't want to see Rainclan warriors role-playing in Cinderclan's camp, and so on, without clear permission from staff. If you wish to talk about regular things, and don't wish to role-play as your character, then please chat in one of Out of Character boards, such as the General Board.
6) Even if you think some staff roles are lower than others, you must listen to all staff members (Admins, mods, leaders, deputies, medicine cats) as equal authority. The only difference in these roles is role-playing authority, or for administrators, more power over things like skins. In terms of moderating your threads for rule breaking, we are all equals. *In character disobedience is fine. Having your warrior deny a Leader's command to go on a patrol is not breaking this rule.*
7) Absolutely no powers, or special gifts. Flying, invisibility, going in others' dreams, invincibility, etc. are all considered powers, and are 100% banned. The only cats that have anything close to powers are the spirits, and they really only walk in the dreams of Medicine Cats and Leaders.
8) Clan jumping is only permitted if you have permission from your current/original clan Leader, and the Leader of the Clan you wish to go to. Usually this is only to be allowed during plots, so please do not nag every Leader so your character can switch Clans.
9) No unrealistic pelt colors, eye colors, sizes, or breeds. I don't want to see any teal lynx-Siamese with pink eyes on my site. I may turn the other way for something that could plausibly exist, like a very reddish-ginger cat. But nothing extreme or alien like. This also goes for accessories. There are absolutely no people anywhere in the territories, or near them, and haven't been for a long time. There are to be no collars, piercings, scarves, etc.
10) This isn't so much of a rule as it is a request. Please do not spoil the books for people. Even if you read every book the day it comes out, not everyone else does, and some of us would quite like to read the books before we find out Sparklecloud dies from a shark bite.
11) To allow faster loading, as well as being a simple convenience for others, signatures should not exceed the size limits. If yours does, it will be replaced with an image telling you so. And yes, if you do this too many times you will be punished. The size limit for signatures, both pictures and text, is 600 x 400.
12) There is to be absolutely no advertising outside of the Advertisement board. See the Advertisement Rules within the Advertisement board for more details.
13) Dying is allowed, but you must have permission from me first. I won't just let you die because you feel like it, though. I need a better reason than "So yaaa, White-ears is like, rlly boring rite naaoo, and I want him to ddiiee." I also expect you to keep your character alive once they die. Spirits can still role-play in their designated boards, as well as with Medicine Cats and Leaders during the Half Moon or Leader Ceremonies.
14) This is a one character per account website. That means on one single account, you may only role-play one character. There isn't a limit on characters you my have, but I would hope you try to keep all of them active. Also, when role-playing, please role-play on the account you're writing as. Don't RP as Firebush while on your Catpaw account.
15) Names must be at least somewhat realistic. The Highlands takes place in the Appalachian Mountains at the Virginia/North Carolina borders. So, even though cobras are real snakes, they don't live in the Appalachian Mountains, or North America for that matter, and therefor a mother wouldn't know about them to name her child Cobrakit. Unrealistic names can and will be changed by staff, one way or another.
16) Sharing personal information is restricted a bit here on The Highlands. Stating your country, state/province/etc., name, gender, and appropriate images are fine. If you post your city or address, or your phone number, your post will be edited, or deleted. You may share your age, considering you must be 13 years or older to be on this site. If it is released that you are younger than 13 years of age, you will be asked to leave. If you refuse, you will be banned. Sorry, but I won't have my site deleted because you can't wait four weeks for your 13th birthday.
17) Having kits is fine. If your character adopts new accounts (which must start as kits) then you're free to just start role-playing. However to role-play pregnancy, birth, and to have fully biological kits in a sort of plot-like way, you must PM myself, Red, Trick, or Kitty. Inter-clan litters must have permission from a staff member, as well as both Clan leaders. Having stillborn kittens requires direct staff permission, as well as kittens born with disabilities.
